Cookie policy

Analytics cookies, only if you allow them

Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-128083QP4E, loads from www.googletagmanager.com only after you choose “Allow analytics”. Until then the tag is not on the page, so Google does not receive an analytics hit from this site. If you decline, it stays off. If you allow it and later decline, we set Google’s disable flag and clear analytics cookies the browser stored for this site.

When analytics is allowed, Google’s tag sets first-party cookies, typically _ga and _ga_128083QP4E, to tell one browser from another and to measure visits. Google receives usage data such as the page address, a coarse location inferred from the connection, and device information. We do not turn on Google advertising features in the tag. See the privacy policy for how that data is used.

Remembering your choice

The choice is stored in this browser under the localStorage key smalllaunch-cookie-consent, with the value accepted or declined. That entry is not a cookie and it is not sent to our server. Clearing site data in the browser forgets the choice and the banner will ask again. The buttons below write the same entry.

Sign-in cookies

If you sign in to save a draft, Amazon Cognito, through Amplify, stores the session in first-party cookies whose names start with CognitoIdentityServiceProvider. They keep you signed in. They are not used for advertising, and they are created only because you signed in. The public assessment form does not create an account. The build-versus-buy calculator does not write cookies or localStorage.

What we do not set

We do not set advertising cookies, and we do not use a cookie banner from a third-party consent platform. A sidebar component in the codebase can set a cookie, but no page on this site uses that component, so the site does not set it.

Your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in the browser. Blocking all cookies will sign you out of saved drafts and can stop the analytics choice from being remembered. The banner on each page, and the buttons on this page, are the controls for Google Analytics.
